On Animes and Quality of Emergence

A famous quote by Aristotle is "The Whole is greater than the sum of its Parts". That surplus that goes beyond the "sum of the Parts" is called Emergence. There is more than a single Emergence: the Whole may be greater than the Parts in different ways. That is what I call "Quality of Emergence" in this paper.

Of course we do not have a way to magically increase quality of Emergence. But I found a great example of that in the anime Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works. The main character, Emiya Shirō (衛宮 士郎), can make use of the magic of FORTIFICATION, which is precisely increasing an object's quality of Emergence.
